A devastating fire tore through a home in Brooklyn, leaving a man in critical condition and causing extensive damage to the building. Authorities from the FDNY believe that the fire may have been caused by an exploding e-bike battery.

The fire broke out in Midwood, on Avenue M near Ocean Parkway, early in the morning. Firefighters and EMS personnel were called to the scene, and it took them 45 minutes to extinguish the blaze. More than 100 emergency personnel were involved in the efforts, treating the injured and preventing the fire from spreading further.

The 30-year-old man who was rescued from the blaze was rushed to Staten Island University Hospital North in critical condition. Three other individuals suffered from smoke inhalation but are expected to recover. Sadly, the fire destroyed two apartments and two storefronts on the second floor, causing significant damage.

Although an e-bike was found at the scene of the fire, it is not yet confirmed if it was the direct cause of the blaze. However, Chief Gorman explained that the burning bike did hinder rescue efforts, as it was located in the hallway, obstructing the evacuation process.

The FDNY Fire Marshal, Daniel Flynn, stated that the e-bike was found in the “area of origin” of the fire. The investigation into the incident is still ongoing to determine the exact cause.
