The Cape Light Compact is delighted to announce that it has secured over $341,157 in funding for Phase 2 of its electric bike rebate program. This initiative collaborates with regional bike shops to offer point-of-sale rebates on e-bikes for income-eligible residents. By providing financial assistance, the program aims to reduce barriers and enhance access to sustainable and clean transportation options for individuals residing in underserved and low-income communities.
Previously, the program offered standard vouchers covering 75% of the cost of a Class-1 e-bike, up to a maximum of $1,200. Additionally, enhanced vouchers were available, covering up to 90% of the e-bike cost, capped at $1,500. The significant support provided through these vouchers has made electric bikes more attainable for many residents.
Compact Administrator Maggie Downey expressed satisfaction with the program’s achievements, stating, “The e-bike rebate program will continue to enhance the Compact’s range of customer rebates and incentives, empowering Cape and Vineyard residents to make a positive impact on the environment and save energy.”
Phase 1 of the program proved successful, with 232 customers redeeming vouchers across seven participating bike shops. As Phase 2 commences, the Compact anticipates issuing approximately 165 vouchers to interested customers.

Embracing clean energy options has never been easier or more affordable for residents of Cape Cod and the Vineyard.
The electric bike industry has been experiencing significant growth in recent years, as more people recognize the benefits of using electric bikes as an alternative mode of transportation. Electric bikes, also known as e-bikes, provide a convenient and eco-friendly way to travel, offering assisted pedaling and reducing the need for traditional gasoline-fueled vehicles.
According to market forecasts, the electric bike market is expected to continue its upward trajectory. With the increasing concern for the environment and the rising popularity of e-bikes, the market is projected to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of over 7% between 2021 and 2026. This growth can be attributed to factors such as government initiatives promoting sustainable transportation, advancements in battery technology, and the increasing demand for eco-friendly commuting options.
However, despite the market’s growth and potential, there are still challenges and issues that need to be addressed. One of the main obstacles is the high upfront cost of electric bikes, which can deter some individuals from making the switch. Moreover, limited availability in certain regions, lack of charging infrastructure, and concerns regarding battery performance and lifespan are also factors that impact the adoption of electric bikes.
The Cape Light Compact’s electric bike rebate program helps to tackle these barriers by offering financial assistance to income-eligible residents. The program’s collaboration with regional bike shops allows for point-of-sale rebates, making it easier for individuals to afford e-bikes. This initiative not only promotes the use of sustainable transportation but also addresses inequities in access to clean energy options for underserved and low-income communities.
