Authorities in Kona have apprehended a 22-year-old man linked to a recent e-bike theft from a local store. The suspect, identified as Luke Deniz, faces multiple charges related to the incident and is also implicated in other criminal property damage cases, according to law enforcement officials.
The theft occurred late on Monday, October 7, 2024, around 11:21 p.m., when local officers responded to an incident at a retail outlet located in the 75-5600 block of Palani Road, Kailua-Kona. Arriving at the scene, officers observed significant damage: the glass front door was shattered, with pieces scattered around, and a sizable rock was found inside the establishment.
Witnesses detailed seeing a young man use a rock to break the door and take an orange/red e-bike. Moments later, a young woman entered and took a gray/blue e-bike before both individuals left in separate directions. Surveillance footage later helped officers identify the male suspect as the previously known Luke Deniz, though the woman’s identity remains unknown.
In addition to the e-bike theft, Deniz has been associated with two other criminal damage incidents at financial institutions in Kona on the same evening. Video evidence shows Deniz using a rock to destroy a bank’s entrance and an ATM, incurring damages amounting to $4,000.
Charges against Deniz include second-degree burglary, second-degree theft, and three counts of second-degree property damage. Meanwhile, authorities continue to seek information on the female suspect, described as around 5 feet 6 inches in height, weighing approximately 130 pounds, with black hair, brown eyes, and a tattoo on her left ankle. She was last seen wearing a light top and dark yoga pants.
