Spring has arrived, bringing with it the perfect opportunity to bring your bicycle out of hibernation and prepare for an exciting cycling season ahead. The Williamsburg Area Bicyclists, in collaboration with BikeWalk Williamsburg, James City County Parks & Recreation, Jamestown Settlement, and local bicycle shops, are delighted to announce the return of the highly anticipated Bikes Out of Hibernation event.
On Saturday, between 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., head over to the Jamestown Settlement parking lot for a day filled with free bike checkups and an array of cycling-related activities. While the main focus of the event is safety inspections and minor adjustments, you can also benefit from tire pumping, helmet fittings, and even receive free helmets. This event provides a valuable opportunity for cyclists of all ages and experience levels to ensure their bikes are in top shape for the season ahead.
Accompanying the bike-related festivities is another exciting event happening on the same day – Pedal the Parkway. This initiative encourages the public to walk, bike, or jog along the car-free Jamestown Island loop or take a ride on the Virginia Capital Trail. As an added bonus, since it’s the first day of National Park Week, entry to all national parks across the country is admission-free. Please note that certain sections of the Colonial Parkway may be closed due to ongoing renovations.
For your convenience, restrooms will be available at both the Jamestown Island Visitors Center and Jamestown Settlement Museum. Free parking can be found at the Jamestown Settlement, located at 2110 Jamestown Road, as well as at the visitor center on Jamestown Island.
